Lions tie program's highest ranking at No. 6 in latest coaches poll

Box Score

KANSAS CITY - Remaining the only unbeaten team in the division, the Freed-Hardeman Lions climbed five spots to No. 6 in the Jan. 14 edition of the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches Poll to tie the program's highest-ever ranking.

FHU (11-0) posted a trio of blowout wins during the week to further help the move upward. The ranking ties the program's highest, which came during the 2001-02 season. The previous high ranking under current head coach Jason Shelton was No. 10 during the 2008-09 season.

It also sets up a top-10 matchup on Saturday when No. 4 Columbia (Mo.) travels to Henderson to face FHU. The Cougars and the Lions are the only American Midwest Conference teams ranked in the poll. Columbia garnered one of 10 first-place votes but still dropped one spot as Cal State San Marcos moved to No. 3.

Pikeville (Ky.) remained No. 1 while Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) held at No. 2.
