Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - Another Freed-Hardeman baseball career record has fallen.
On Saturday, April 12, Kyle Dearing crossed home plate for the 223rd time, breaking the 16-year-old record held by Donald Martin.
Martin's career hits record was also broken earlier this season by Robert Prieto.
Dearing, a senior infielder from Fayetteville, Ga., scored the record-breaking run in the ninth inning of FHU's final weekend game against Lyon (Ark.) College. He broke Martin's record of 222, which was set in 1998.
Through 41 games this season, Dearing is hitting .317 with a career-high 13 doubles and has also swiped 30 bases. His 124 career stolen bases ranks second all-time as do his 133 career walks. He needs one more double to move into a tie for ninth place on the career list.
Dearing, who has spent most of his time in the field at second base and shortstop, made an immediate impact upon arriving at FHU by hitting .322 as a freshman with 54 runs and 35 steals. As a sophomore, he scored 64 runs and swiped 37 bases. His 210 hits currently rank eighth all-time.
An accounting major, Dearing has played in 202 games in his career thus far.
