Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - Both Freed-Hardeman soccer teams will look to start a new unbeaten streak on Tuesday as they host Williams Baptist (Ark.) College in American Midwest Conference contests.
WOMEN'S MATCH - 5:00 PM
SETTING THE STAGE
FHU (4-2-1, 1-1) is coming off its first loss in nearly a month as Columbia upended the Lady Lions on Saturday, 3-0. Williams Baptist (2-5, 1-2) is also looking to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) on Saturday.
LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
Taylor Jenkins recorded the first of her two hat tricks of her freshman season as the Lady Lions cruised to an 8-0 win in Walnut Ridge, Ark. FHU led 3-0 at half and tacked on five more goals in the second period.
WHAT TO WATCH
- Williams Baptist is rapidly improving in its second year of having a women's program. With two wins, they have already surpassed last year's wins total and have seen their average margin of defeat reduced significantly.
- The Lady Lions are coming off their first loss in nearly a month, but competed well against a Columbia (Mo.) team that beat them 8-0 and 9-0 last season. A win tonight would match the team's wins total from 2013.
- Tonight will mark FHU's third match in six days and with a short bench, fatigue could become a factor. However, the Eagles have given up a lot of shots (22 or more in five of seven matches), so the Lady Lions can limit some of the possible fatigue by controlling possession.
- The Lady Lions maintain a high percentage of putting shots on goal (60.4 percent), but WBC keeper Abagail Bormann has been quite good at stopping shots with a .864 save percentage. She has posted clean sheets in both Eagle wins, with 13 saves in a 1-0 win over University of the Ozarks.
- Defensively, Freed-Hardeman has been excellent thus far with a goals allowed average of 1.29. The trio of Ana Aponte, Kennedi Van Ravestein and Rachel Butler - all returning starters - have played a big role in that defensive success. Freshman Olivia Willingham continues to steadily improve at right back, and goalkeeper Lauren Cherry has been solid in her first year at FHU with a save percentage of .828.
WHO TO WATCH
Sydney Dubiel (Fr.; FWD; Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)
The speedy forward has yet to have a breakout match, and has been a little unlucky having hit the frame multiple times this season. It won't be long, though, until she has that breakout performance and tonight could be that night as FHU faces a team that has surrendered a lot of shots.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Lauren Cherry stopped a career-high 14 shots on Saturday in the loss at Columbia. It was the most saves by an FHU keeper since Tiffany Harris saved 15 on Oct. 16, 2009.
- Although FHU has surrendered 11 more total shots to its opponents, the Lady Lions have taken 20 more shots on goal.

MEN'S MATCH - 7:00 PM
SETTING THE STAGE
Both Freed-Hardeman (5-1, 1-1) and Williams Baptist (3-2-1, 1-1) are coming off conference losses on Saturday by scores of 3-0. The outcome of this match will be important in gaining a spot in the conference tournament in November.
LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
Although Freed-Hardeman outshot WBC, 25-14, the Eagles handed the Lions their first loss of 2013 with a golden goal in the 108th minute to break a scoreless match. It ended the Lion winning streak at five.
WHAT TO WATCH
- Both FHU and WBC are pretty stingy in allowing shots. The Eagles have given up an average of 11.1 shots per match while the Lions are allowing 8.6 shots per match. That means both teams will have to take full advantage of any opportunities they get offensively.
- The Lions have created most of their goals this year by ball movement instead of sending long balls downfield and looking for breakaways. Eight of the team's 12 assists have come from Stefano Basso (5) and Alex Meany (3). If the Lions manage to maintain possession like they have for much of the season, their passing ability will put a lot of pressure on the WBC defense.
- The FHU back line will need to keep a mark on Matheus Allonso. The sophomore forward has scored five of WBC's nine goals. The Eagles like to set him up with long balls, so the Lion defense cannot afford to let him get free.
WHO TO WATCH
Stefano Basso (Sr.; MF; Londrina, Brazil)
One of two seniors on the team, Basso has either scored or assisted on eight of the Lions' last 10 goals after moving back to outside midfielder. He is quick down the line and has a very strong left foot.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Lions' recent five-match winning streak was the sixth in program history. It was one short of the record streak of six wins in a row.
- Basso and Alex Meany have either scored or assisted on FHU's last 10 goals.
