HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team will look to rebound from a loss over the weekend as they travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark. Tuesday to take on Williams Baptist College in a 1:00 PM match up.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Lady Lions (5-4-1, 2-3-1) are coming off a 3-1 loss to William Woods (Mo.) University (5-6-2,3-3-1) over the weekend.
Although the Lady Lions (5-4-1, 3-2-1) outshot the Lady Owls 17-16 in the match, with 10 of FHU's shots coming on goal, the Lady Owls were able to find answers late in the match to secure a victory. William Woods was provided the same amount of opportunities as the Lady Lions except they were able to finish out their drives and find the back of the net.
FHU keeper Lauren Cherry stayed busy for a majority of the afternoon and was able to limit the Lady Owls on many of their scoring opportunities. Although the Lady Owls outscored FHU in the match 3-1, Cherry was able to save five of the eight shots she faced in the match. Sydney Dubiel led FHU in total offense with five total shots and five shots on goal.
Williams Baptist (Ark.) College (3-7, 1-5) is coming into Tuesday's match off a 4-3 overtime win over Central Baptist (Ark.) College (0-11-1, 0-5-1). The Lady Eagles were able to pick up the win with a goal by Maria Ramirez two minutes into the overtime period. Ramirez was able to hussle down the field into Eagle territory as Williams Baptist midfielder Maddie Mead was able to find her on a cross on the left side of the pitch to put away the goal to secure the victory.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The Lady Lions hosted Williams Baptist last season on September 23 at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex and came away with their fifth win of the season as they defeated the Lady Eagles 3-0.
Kennedi Van Ravestein broke the scoreless tie in the 62nd minute, making a run down the left side of the box where Julianne Renner set her up with a pass. Moments later in the 63rd minute, Renner found the back of the net after collecting a loose ball in the right side of the box and firing a shot off the crossbar that deflected down into the left corner.
Sydney Dubiel finished off the scoring in the 77th minute where she sent a hard shot to the right post. FHU controlled possession for much of the match, out-shooting WBC 28-7. Lauren Cherry posted her second clean sheet of the year and had four saves.
The Lady Lions will look to have a similar result this year as they travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark. to take on a Williams Baptist roster that has returned many of their starters from last season.
