BASEBALL GAMEDAY: FHU at Christian Brothers

Box Score

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions open the 2015 baseball campaign on a frigid afternoon in Memphis, as they travel to take on NCAA Division II Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University at 2:00 PM.

Game #1: Freed-Hardeman (0-0) vs. Christian Brothers (2-0) | 2:00 PM | Nadicksbernd Field
Coverage: Live Stats
On The Hill: Brandon Guske (2-0, 3.19 ERA in 2014)

SETTING THE STAGE
The Lions open the 2015 season with plenty of new faces after coming one game short of earning a bid to the NAIA National Tournament last season. Sophomore Brandon Guske, a reliever last year, gets the nod on the mound today as he is one of several options for spots in the starting rotation. The Bucs opened the season on Saturday, sweeping a double-header from crosstown school Lemoyne-Owen, 7-4 and 7-0. Buc DH Mac Cooley had a big day at the plate going 4-for-6 with four RBIs.

NEW YEAR, NEW FACES
After losing nearly 20 players from last year's team, the Lions welcomed in a huge recruiting class that will have a major impact on this year's success. Among the new Lions to expect to see in the lineup: C Argenis Salazar, a transfer from Mid-Continent (Ky.) who was an all-conference selection last season. OF Chase Young, a transfer from NCAA Division I Tennessee-Martin, will likely open the year in the leadoff spot. Also look for names like Zac Carter, Houston Looser, Nathan Van Nortwick and Peyton Meeker in the batting order.

BLAZING THE BASEPATHS
Last year, the Lions were among the top teams in the NAIA in stolen bases ranking sixth with 152. Gone are the team's top three base-stealers, but don't expect FHU to slow down any time soon as there is still plenty of speed in the lineup with returnees Mark Salisbury, Garrett Ferguson and Connor Kohlscheen along with newcomers Chase Young and J.C. Daily.

POWER SUPPLY
Freed-Hardeman will look to returnees Bobby Seda and Garrett Ferguson as two of their main suppliers of power this season. Keep an eye on Seda in particular; the senior has battled injuries the last two years but is fully healthy and showed off his power ability with a monster blast over the centerfield wall at Carnes Field in a scrimmage against Jackson State CC last week.

HOME OPENER
The Lions open their home schedule this weekend hosting Northwestern Ohio in a four-game series beginning on Friday.
