Lions down William Woods, move into AMC semifinals

Box Score

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions started out hot in their American Midwest Conference quarterfinal matchup with William Woods (Mo.) University and never looked back, advancing to the semifinals with an 80-62 win on Friday afternoon.

The Lions (26-3) opened the game on a 19-5 run and later rolled off an 11-2 run to build 22-point lead late in the first half.

As it went the last time the two teams played, FHU did its damage from inside as the Owls extended their defense in an attempt to limit perimeter shooting. Isaiah Harrison took advantage, scoring 14 of his game-high 18 in the half and the Lions shot 51.6 percent from the field.

Freed-Hardeman looked primed to run away with the game early in the second half, outscoring WWU 14-5 out of the break to extend the lead to 28 points with 14:29 to play.

But the Owls started warming up from the outside and connected on 5-of-10 3-point attempts in the second half, and quickly pulled back within 16 points at the 9:30 mark.

That would be as close as they would get, as the teams mostly traded baskets for the rest of the game.

Harrison finished the day with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while Vincent Dotson narrowly missed one of his own with 13 points and nine boards. Cameron Lewis added 16 points while Evan Forhetz dished out 10 assists.

NOTES AND NUMBERS: The Lions threw down five dunks in the game, highlighted by a Chandler Mack breakaway where he was fouled on the play (see photo)...Harrison, Dotson and Joseph Williams combined to go 17-of-23 from the floor...Tonight marked Forhetz's first game with 10 or more assists since Jan. 24. He's done it four times this season...Harrison's double-double was his fourth of the season.

UP NEXT: The Lions host Williams Baptist (Ark.) in the semifinals on Saturday at 4:00 PM. The two teams split in the regular season with each winning on their home floors.
