Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions scored early and often, getting three home runs in the first two innings on their way to a 14-4 win in the opening game of a three-game weekend series with Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) on Friday afternoon.
The Lions (25-9, 12-4), winners of six in a row, wasted little time in jumping on the Hornets. After J.C. Daily led off the home half of the first with a single, Houston Looser connected on a two-run shot (4) to put FHU on the board. Four batters later, Bob Seda added to the lead with a three-run home run (3) that preceded an RBI double by Nathan Van Nortwick as the Lions plated six runs in the first.
Argenis Salazar got into the act in the second with a two-run blast, his eighth of the season.
The Hornets picked up two runs in the top of the fourth off of Lion starter Brandon Guske, but FHU responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning - all of which came with two outs.
Guske (9-3) picked up the win, allowing four runs on eight hits over 6-1/3 innings. Jared Humphry recorded the final two outs in relief, stranding both base runners he inherited. Guske's ninth win is the third-most in program history in a single season and puts him within reach of the record of 11, held by Josh Hester.
Looser continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 3-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. He is 25-for-39 during the streak with seven multi-hit games. Salazar, Seda and Van Nortwick each had two hits with Seda and Van Nortwick both driving in four runs.
The series concludes with a double-header on Saturday beginning at noon. Senior day festivities honoring the team's six seniors will take place before the first game.
