Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions saw their eight-game winning streak snapped by the defending national champions as they fell at home to Cumberland (Tenn.), 7-3, on Monday evening.
FHU (27-10) scored all three of its runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Bobby Seda and a two-run error off a wild throw by Cumberland third baseman Orlando Collier.
From that point on, CU starter Cameron Lenz shut down the Lions as he went the distance in tossing a three-hitter with nine strikeouts. Lenz held FHU without a hit from the third through eighth innings.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third after a two-run, two-out double by Ryan Dickison and later scored what proved to be the winning run in the sixth after back-to-back hits. All seven of Cumberland's runs scored with two outs.
Jordan Newby (5-1) took the loss in three innings of relief. He allowed only one run, but it proved to be the winning run in his first loss of the season. Starter J.C. Chapman allowed three runs in three innings.
Seda's hot hitting continued for Freed-Hardeman as he accounted for two of the team's three hits. Houston Looser's 12-game hitting streak came to an end.
The Lions face off against NCAA Division II Union (Tenn.) University on the road on Tuesday at 5:00 PM before traveling to No. 11 Missouri Baptist for a key three-game conference weekend series in a battle for first place in the American Midwest standings.
