HENDERSON, Tenn. - The No. 12 Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team will look to stay atop the American Midwest Conference standings Saturday as they host William Woods (Mo.) University in a 4:00 PM match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
SETTING THE STAGE
FHU (22-5, 16-3 AMC) enters tonight's matchup coming off an impressive 67-60 upset victory over Columbia (Mo.) College (22-5, 15-4 AMC) on Thursday. Orlando Bass and Isaiah Harrison both recorded double-doubles in the match-up as Bass finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Harrison had 10 points and 12 rebounds. The double-double marks the 14th of the season for Harrison. Evan Forhetz, who leads the AMC in assists with 6.92 per game, lived up to his reputation and dished out an impressive nine assists in the contest.
FHU shot just 34 percent from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc in the game compared to Columbia College, who shot 38 percent from the field and 30 percent from three-point range.
Nic Reynolds led the Cougars on the offensive end and was the only Columbia player to reach double figures in the match-up as he finished the night with 18 points. Travis Vogt led Columbia on the glass as he pulled down 10 rebounds. The Cougars, who average 81 points per game, were held to just 60 points in match-up as the game proved to be a defensive struggle from the opening tip.
The Lions held an edge on the glass as they out-rebounded the Cougars 45-31 while forcing 16 turnovers and picking up four steals to keep Columbia on their heels the entire night.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
William Woods (Mo.) University (18-10, 14-6 AMC) enters tonight's matchup coming off an 80-79 victory at Williams Baptist (Ark.) College (13-9, 11-8 AMC) on Thursday to pick up their 18th win of the season and 14th in conference play.
The Owls are led by Kevin House, who averages 14.79 points per game while also leading the team in assists as he dishes out 6.00 assists per game. Bryan DeGeare leads William Woods on the glass as he averages 6.09 rebounds per game while Deon Pettigrew leads the team in total steals as he averages 1.29 steals per game.
As a team, the Owls average 83 points per game while holding their opponents to 77.6 points per game. Overall, the Owls enter tonight's matchup with a record of 18-10 on the season (14-6 in league play) and sits at fourth place in the American Midwest Conference just behind Park (Mo.) University.
Tonight marks the seventh meeting between FHU and William Woods since the Lions joined the AMC during the 2013-14 season. The Lions lead the series 6-1 entering tonight's game. The last meeting between FHU and the Owls was earlier this season on January 9, 2016 as the Lions were defeated 105-98 on the road in Fulton, Mo.
