SETTING THE STAGE
FHU (16-5, 3-0 AMC) enters tonight's match-up with Hannibal-LaGrange (0-18, 0-3 AMC) coming off a split with Blue Mountain College on Tuesday, March 8.
Jared Humphry (1-1) suffered the loss in the opening game as he pitched seven full innings and allowed just six hits, one walk and three runs. Garrett Ferguson led the Lions at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, which included a home run and an RBI to keep the Lions in the game.
The Toppers did all their damage in the second inning as Peyton Callahan would get things started with a double to deep right center field. Callahan would score later in the inning as Leo Delmar would reach on a fielder's choice. However, the Toppers would not be done in the inning, as Blake Key would hit a two-run shot to left field to give Blue Mountain the early 3-0 lead.
The Lions would come storming back in the nightcap as they shut down the Toppers to pick up the 4-0 win. Beau Caviness (4-1) picked up the win after working four innings in relief of Casey Overturf, who started the game.
Overturf worked three innings and gave up just three hits and struck out one in his second outing of the year. Caviness worked the remaining four innings and gave up just two hits and struck out five in the victory.
J.C. Daily led the Lions at the plate as he went 2-for-4 on the day and scored two runs in the win. Darcy Moore, who started Game 2 in right field, also came up big in his first start of the year as he went 1-for-2 on the day and had a home run and two RBI's.
