Box Score

Matt Barker, Sports Information Director

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lion baseball team continued their impressive play at the plate Tuesday as they pounded out 14 hits to complete the sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange University with a final score of 15-2. With the win, the Lions move to 19-5 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

FHU (19-5, 6-0 AMC) used a slew of relievers to get the job done following a solid start by Jack Coleman. Jared Humphry, Casey Overturf, Kyle Douglas and Bailey Barnett combined for four innings of work and allowed just four hits while striking out three. Jared Humphry (2-1) was credited with the win after working one inning and giving up no hits and striking out two.

Houston Looser led the Lions at the plate as he went 2-for-3 on the day with a homerun and four RBI's. Zac Carter also finished the day strong with two hits and three RBI's. The Lions pounded out 14 hits in the game and had three doubles and a triple to help close things out in convincing fashion.

Hannibal-LaGrange University (0-21, 0-6 AMC) would get on the board first as Christian Bortner would cross the plate after reaching on a wild throw by Nate Van Nortwick. A passed ball by Jordan Woelfle would move Bortner to second, where he was able to score following a single to shallow center field by Seth Brown.

The lead for the Trojans, however, would be short lived as the Lions would find their stride in the bottom half of the inning to score four runs. J.C. Daily would get the drive started with a double to center field to start the game. Zac Carter would clean things up from there with a triple to deep left field to score Daily and keep the drive going for FHU. Carter, Garrett Ferguson and Looser would also cross the plate in the inning as the bats continued to fly to put the Lions up 4-1 early.

The Lions would add six more runs in the bottom half of the second inning as Chandler Monajjem, Nate Van Nortwick and J.C. Daily would cross the plate to start the inning strong. Looser would finish the inning strong with a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Lions up 10-1.

FHU would add another run in the bottom of the third inning along with four runs in the fourth inning to keep the Lions well out in front with a 15-1 lead, which would be all they needed to cruise to a 15-2 victory and complete the sweep of the Trojans.

With the win, the Lions move to 19-5 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

UP NEXT: The Lions will be back in action this week on the road as they travel to Park (Mo.) University on Friday, March 18 for a double-header beginning at 12:00 PM in Parkville, Mo. FHU will finish the series with Park in a single nine-inning game on Saturday, March 19 beginning at 12:00 PM.
