SETTING THE STAGE
FHU (12-4, 0-0 AMC) enters tonight's match-up with Central Baptist (Ark.) College (17-1, 0-0 AMC) coming off a convincing 18-3 victory over Morthland College to pick up their twelfth win of the season.
FHU used an abundance of relievers to get the job done as Jordan Newby picked up the win working one inning, allowing no hits and no walks in the outing. The Lions relied on a total of seven relief pitchers, who allowed just 10 hits and three runs in the victory.
J.C. Daily led the Lions at the plate as he went 4-for-4 on the day and contributed four RBI's and a triple. Chase Young followed close behind with a 2-for-3 performance as he added two RBI's and a double.
The Lions would get things started with two runs in the first inning and would not let up from there as they crossed the plate in each subsequent inning from that point forward.
FHU would add to their total in the second and third innings as they put up three more runs each while adding four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to keep the game out of reach for the Patriots.
The Lions finished the day with two runs in the sixth to put the Lions up 18-3 as the Patriots mustered just three combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Nate Van Nortwick crossed the plate four times for the Lions in the contest while Trollinger followed close behind with three runs. Griffin Siebert and Daily each scored two runs in the victory. Daily also led the team in RBI's in the match-up with four while Young drove in three to continue his hot start to the season.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Tonight marks the first meeting between FHU and Central Baptist College. The Mustangs joined the American Midwest Conference and have had an impressive start to the season, boasting a 17-1 record. Last season, the Mustangs posted a 31-29 record under Head Coach Aaron Brister, who enters his second season at the helm for Central Baptist College.
The Lions will look to continue their hot start to the season as they face AMC leader Central Baptist College beginning tonight at 5:00 PM.
