HENDERSON, Tenn. - FHU pitcher Brandon Guske limited Lyon College to just two hits while Zac Carter had no trouble at the plate, pounding out two home-runs in the game to lead the Lions to a 9-2 victory over the Scots Friday night at Carnes Field.
Guske (7-2) wasn't alone in regard to shutting down the Scots as Carter, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., put forth his fair share of punishment to the Lyon pitching staff, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two home-runs and a double, to give the opposition fits the entire night. Carter racked up four RBI's on the night, which contributed to nearly half of FHU's runs in the game.
Several other Lion players stepped up at the plate in the victory, including Pete Trollinger who also went 3-for-5 on the day and contributed a double and two RBI's while Chase Young went 2-for-5 and contributed an RBI of his own to continue his solid play at the plate.
Guske picked up the win in the series opener after working all nine innings and allowing just two hits while striking out 10 for his seventh victory of the season.
Carter would get things started for the Lions in the bottom half of the first inning with a two-run shot to left field to put FHU up 2-0 early. He would cross the plate again in the bottom of the third inning after reaching on a double down the left field line.
Carter would add another two-run home-run to his total in the bottom of the fourth inning to contribute to a four-hit, four-run inning by the Lions to put FHU up 7-0 and keep the game well out of reach of the Scots.
Lyon College would squeak out two runs in the top of the seventh inning as first-baseman Joseph Sitzman connected on a two-run home-run over the left field fence to close the gap to five at the 7-2 mark.
However, the Lions would add two more runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning while Guske shut things down on the mound the rest of the way to give FHU the 9-2 victory.
