SAVANNAH, Ga. - Nolan Huber pitches well in his home state. On top of pitching a complete game, the Peach Tree City, Ga. native also struck out five while allowing just four runs as the Lions cruised to a 15-4 win over Taylor (Ind.) University to stay alive in the NAIA Tournament Opening Round Wednesday in Savannah, Ga.
Huber wasn't the only player to perform well Wednesday, as the Lions followed his lead by pounding out 14 hits, led by Griffin Siebert who went 3-for-4 with three RBI's to lead FHU (40-18) at the plate.
The remaining starters for the Lions also performed well at the plate as eight players contributed at least one hit in the contest. The Lions also cashed in on five errors made by Taylor University (40-18), several of which led to insurance runs to help FHU pull away for good.
Although Taylor University would strike first in the game with two runs in the top of the second inning, the remainder of the game would be all FHU. The Lions would counter the attack of the Trojans in the second inning with three runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead.
However, the Lions were just getting started, as they belted out eight runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 11-2 lead, which would not be relinquished.
The Lions would add four more runs in the eighth inning while the Trojans mustered just one run to finish out the game to give FHU the 15-4 victory.
With the win, the Lions move to 40-18 on the season and advance to play an elimination game with Campbellsville University Thursday at 1:00 PM. C.S.T.
With the loss, Taylor University ends their season with a record of 40-18.
