Lions Wrap Up Columbia Series With 6-0 Loss

Matt Barker, Sports Information Director

CORINTH, Miss. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team could not carry the momentum from their weekend sweep into Monday, as they fell 6-0 to Columbia College to wrap up the three-game series with the Cougars on the road in Corinth, Miss.

The Lions (9-5) scattered just six hits in the match-up compared to Columbia College (9-4), who pounded out nine hits in the game. Jared Humphry suffered the loss for Freed-Hardeman, despite working seven solid innings and allowing just five hits while striking out four.

The Cougars tallied just two runs throughout the first seven innings, but a three-run home run by Andrew Warner in the eighth inning kept the game out of reach, as Columbia scored four runs in the frame to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

Despite the loss, the Lions received solid contribution from lead off hitter Bryce Lester, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double. Lester accounted for a majority of the Lions attack at the plate, as he contributed three of FHU's six hits.

Cody Ebert picked up the win for the Cougars after working 6 and 2/3 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five batters. J.W. McGraw provided 2 and 1/3 innings of relief and tallied one strikeout while allowing just three hits in the win.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Columbia College moves to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Tuesday, February 27th, as they host Christian Brothers University for a 5:00 PM match-up at Carnes Field.
