ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion Soccer team opened their conference schedule Tuesday on the road at Harris-Stowe State University and despite a solid effort suffered a 2-0 loss in St. Louis, Mo.
The Lady Lions (1-2-1, 0-1 AMC) looked to open their conference schedule on a positive note; however, the Hornets had other plans, as they fired in two late goals in the second half to secure the 2-0 shutout.
FHU attempted just two shots in the match with zero shots on goal compared to Harris-Stowe State University, who attempted 21 shots in the match with 11 of them being on frame.
McCall Decker and Nele Kirsch both attempted shots in the match, but that was all the offense displayed on the FHU front. Despite the loss, Erin Douglas was solid in goal, as she saved nine shots while giving up two late goals.
The Hornets (3-0-1, 1-0 AMC) broke the ice in the 78th minute, as Rachelle Gray fired in a penalty kick to the corner of the net to put HSSU up 1-0 late in the game.
Harris-Stowe tallied another goal in the 82nd minute, as Lyla Rudloff fired in a goal of her own from the corner deep in the box to give HSSU a 2-0 lead, which was all they needed to secure the shutout.
With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 1-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Harris-Stowe State University improves to 3-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in AMC play with the win.
