HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University women's soccer team (5-5, 4-3 AMC) defeated Harris-Stowe State University (10-2-1, 7-1 AMC) 3-2 on Tuesday night, giving the first-placed Hornets their first conference loss of the season.
Coming into the game, HSSU was undefeated in AMC play and was the first team to clinch a spot in the AMC tournament. On Tuesday night, the Lady Lions were the better team as they controlled ball possession majority of the game.
The Lady Hornets would strike first in the fifth minute, and they would hold on to the 1-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, it was all Lady Lions, and it didn't take long for Hannah Bilger to score her third goal in two games in the 46th minute to even the score. Bilger's goal was the first of a barrage of goals for the hosts as Chloe Finney would score in the 56th minute of the assist from Sam Clymer, and Clymer would add one of her own in the 66th minute to give the Lady Lions a 3-1 lead.
Holley Moore had a strong night in goal, rejected the visitors seven times in the contest.
The Lady Hornets would score again in the 83rd minute to try to make a comeback, but the Lady Lions defense held strong to hold off HSSU for the win.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex. Kick-off is 3 p.m
