BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The No. 2 Lions (5-4) were supposed to play at home on Tuesday, but field conditions forced them to travel to Blue Mountain College (5-4-1) rather than hosting the Toppers at Carnes field. The Lions were able to snag two road victories in the seven-inning double-header, taking game one 7-4 and holding on late to win game two 6-4.

Game one featured the senior Lyon College transfer Tyson Campbell on the bump. The All-American went six and one-thirds innings pitched, striking out seven batters. The Lions took a 7-0 lead into the seventh inning, but the Toppers were able to mount tree quick runs on Campbell, forcing coach Jonathan Estes to go to his bullpen.

Estes went with senior Collin McPherson – who has mainly played first base and designated hitter during this young campaign – and he finished off the last two outs, only giving up one run in the process.

The Lions were up 1-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning, which is when the bats came alive.

The visitors were able to score six runs off the bats of Zach Sanders, Josh Sears and Will McCall. Three of those runs came as a result of the freshman McCall's bases-clearing double.

Sears went 2-for-4 in the contest with the three remaining RBI's. McPherson and De'Mikyle Holmes also added 2-for-4 outings.

Game two was eerily similar to game one with the Lions going up big in the fifth inning, but Blue Mountain attempting a valiant comeback soon after.

Freed-Hardeman broke through first with a run scored in the second inning on a fielder's choice that plated McPherson.

Blue Mountain was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the third, but the Lions jumped out to a large lead, again in the top of the fifth.

Holmes was able to bring in one run on a single, followed by a wild pitch scoring one more run and Sears hitting a single that brought in two more runs, putting the Lions up 5-1.

Freshman Alex Huey earned the start for the Lions, striking out eight batters in the four and two-thirds innings. He gave up four runs in the fifth inning, putting the Toppers down one, and was replaced by Tyrek White, who finished the final two and one-third innings scoreless with three strikeouts.

The Lions went back up two runs in the top of the seventh inning when Christian Busby drove in Bryce Lester with two outs, and the Lions would hold on to the two-run lead.

The Lions are scheduled to play at home on Friday in a single-game matchup with Lindsey Wilson College at 4 p.m.
