BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lions baseball team (17-6, 9-2 AMC) split the two-game series on the road against No. 20 Lyon College (20-5, 8-3 AMC) with a dominating 11-1 win in game one, but falling 5-2 in game two.
The Scots took an early 1-0 lead over the No. 6 Lions in the first game, but the bats got hot for the visitors in the final three innings, scoring at least three runs in each inning.
The scored three runs in the top of the fifth off of a two-run single hit by Josh Sears, followed by De'Mikyle Holmes scoring on a wild pitch.
Three more runs were scored in the top of the sixth, followed by a strong final inning, in which five runs came across the plate.
A James Dodd double scored Dalton Lankford and Dom Pisano, Zach Sanders scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryce Lester, and Sears brought in Holmes on a double.
In game two of the afternoon, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Holmes brought in Lester on an RBI double. But the Scots got it back and more after scoring their five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Freed-Hardeman scored its second and final run in the top of the fifth when Will McCall brought in Holmes, but they were unable to get any more runs on the board.
The Lions will take on Roosevelt College in a single-game matchup on Tuesday at 10 a.m. followed by a three-game series with Hannibal-LaGrange on Friday and Saturday.
