JACKSON, Tenn. – After a couple of cancellations delayed the start of the 2019 tennis season, the Lady Lions were finally able to get back on the court and get a 5-1 win over Lindenwood University-Belleville late on Friday night.
Wet courts forced the match to be moved to the indoor courts at Jackson Country Club at 7:30 p.m., and it was nearly midnight before the Lady Lions were able to seal the win.
The Lynx only brought four players, which gave Freed-Hardeman the early lead due to the visitors not having enough for a final doubles match or final two singles matches.
Selinde Tatum and Emaleigh Board were able to seal the first doubles match of the season with an 8-1 win over Lindenwood's top pairing.
A second doubles win by Emily Blackmarr and Sydney Smith would've sealed the win for the Lady Lions before even getting into the singles matches, but the pair fell 8-3
That left it up to the Lady Lions' No. 1 Tatum to get the win, and she would sweep her matchup 6-0, 6-0 to win without dropping a set.
The Lady Lions are scheduled for another home match on Friday against No. 6 William Woods at 1 p.m.
