HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lions baseball team (34-11, 21-3 AMC) earned its eighth straight American Midwest Conference series win on Saturday with a 6-4 win over Lindenwood University-Belleville (22-22, 13-14 AMC).

Weather forced an earlier start than scheduled, with the game starting at 10:30 Saturday morning in hopes to avoid the rain showers expected for later in the day.

The Lions took control of the game early and never really relinquished that control.

The No. 6 team in the country went up 2-0 after the second and fourth innings. The first run came across after Collin Baber courtesy ran for James Dodd, stole second base and made it to third after Christian Busby hit a single. Baber came across the plate on a pitch that went in the dirt.

In the fourth inning, Zach Sanders hit a double and then advanced to third on a wild throw. Dodd later singled to left, driving in Sanders for the Lions' second run of the game.

The Lynx got one run back in the top of the fifth, but the home squad exploded for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend its lead to 6-1. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by De'Mikyle Holmes , which looked like it would be a three-run home run off the bat.

Holmes stole third base and was later brought in by Collin McPherson, who hit a two-out single to center field. McPherson then scored after Will McCall had a hard-hit double, allowing McPherson to get home from first base.

The Lynx made a strong attempt at a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth and one more in the top of the ninth, but they came up short.

Austin Steel had a strong outing on the mound, going eight and two-thirds innings while striking out 10 batters.

Landon Sewell came on in relief to record the final out of the game.

The Lions are scheduled for a single-game matchup with Cumberland University on Monday at home. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
