Taylor Hodges, Sports Information Director

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lions baseball team (29-10, 16-2 AMC) were able to erase a five-run deficit in the fourth inning to defeat Lyon College (27-12, 12-6 AMC) 10-8 and remain at the top of the American Midwest Conference standings.

The Scots jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, but Josh Sears would hit his first of two solo home runs with two outs to cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning.

Lyon would then go on its rampage of runs in the top of the fourth, making it a 6-1 game heading into the halfway point of the contest.

The Lions didn't waiver, though, as they answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, making it a two-run game.

Sears came across for his second run of the game after the bases had been loaded and James Dodd brought him in with a single. That hit also brought in Colin McPherson. Will McCall came in for the third and final run of the inning after he was brought in by Dom Pisano on a single hit to left field.

Following that inning is when the Lions would take a firm grasp on the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sears struck his second solo shot of the game, this one also with two outs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Sanders came across the plate after Dodd hit a single to the shortstop. The shortstop would make an error, allowing Sanders to score and make it a tie game at six runs each.

With a runner on and two outs, Cody McSwain stepped to the plate and gave his Lions the lead for the first time in the game with a two-run home run.

Freed-Hardeman would score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to four. Sanders brought Sears and McCall in after hitting a double.

The Scots would go on to score two more runs in the top of the ninth in an attempted comeback, but they would come up short, giving the Lions the come-from-behind victory.

Alex Huey came on in relief in the sixth inning and was credited for the win. He went three and two-thirds innings and struck out two batters.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday when they travel to William Woods. They will play a double-header on Friday beginning at 1 p.m., with a solo game on Saturday at 12 noon to finish off the series.
