Lions earn fifth AMC sweep

FULTON, Mo. – The No. 6 Lions (32-10, 19-2 AMC) blew past William Woods (12-25-1, 5-19 AMC) 12-1 on Saturday afternoon to earn their fifth sweep of the conference season and remain at the top of the American Midwest Conference standings.

It was a tight game after three innings, with the Lions on top 2-1, both teams scoring in the third.

Josh Sears hit a two-run home run, his 12th of the season, scoring De'Mikyle Holmes, who led the inning off with a single.

After the Owls cut the lead in half, the visitors took over the contest, scoring four runs in the fourth inning, one run in the seventh, three in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Collin McPherson was a force at the plate, going 3-for-6 with two home runs and a double, and four runs batted in.

Sears also had four RBIs on a 3-for-4 afternoon including his two-run shot, and Will McCall hit one over the wall and added three RBIs. Dom Pisano had the only other RBI in the game, going 1-for-1 in the contest while drawing a walk.

Jacob Sawyers got the start on the mound and went seven innings, striking out six batters. Tyrek White and Landon Sewell each threw one inning to close out the game.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Cumberland to take on the Phoenix in a single-game matchup. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
