BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The No. 8 Lions (8-2) completed a two-game sweep over Blue Mountain College (5-8) 7-0 and 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon in their first mid-week action of the 2020 season.

It was all FHU from the jump when both Bryce Lester and Isaac Howeth got on base to start the game and Josh Sears bringing in Lester with a hard-hit ball into left field. Dom Pisano was able to bring in Howeth with a one-out hit to left field.

The Lions would go on to score two runs in the second and sixth innings and one in the fifth for their total of seven in the game-one win.

Jack Christian got his first start of the season for the Lions and earned the complete-game shutout win. In his seven innings of action, he only gave up two hits and let his defense work behind him.

Will McCall went 1-for-2 in the contest and drove in three runs. Howeth finished the first game with two hits.

In game two of the double-header, the Lions jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Toppers were able to put one on the board in the bottom half of the inning, followed by two runs to tie the game in the second.

FHU regained the lead in the fifth inning when Beau Simpson hit a single to left field, scoring Cole Nichols, but Blue Mountain answered with a two-out RBI single to tie it back up at 4-4.

Landon Sewell entered the game in the sixth inning and threw two shutout innings to force extra innings, and the bats came alive for the Lions in the eighth.

Lester reached on a leadoff single and was moved to second base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Howeth. Sears then came to the plate and sent the first pitch he saw to right center field, scoring Lester and breaking the tie. Collin Baber came in to courtesy run for Sears, and after being moved to third on McCall's fourth hit of the game, he was brought home on another perfect sacrifice bunt, this time by Pisano.

Christian Busby came in to run for McCall and was able to reach third on a passed ball. Cam Palmeter brought him in with a single to make it 7-4 before Sewell entered in the eighth and earned the win for the Lions.

McCall had a strong second game, going 4-for-5 in the contest. McSwain brought in two of the seven runs out of the DH spot.

The Lions will be back in action at home this weekend when they open AMC play against William Woods. There is one game scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. followed by a double-header on Saturday starting at noon.
