HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Lions baseball team (15-4, 7-1 AMC) dropped its first AMC game on Friday afternoon, losing to Hannibal-LaGrange (7-11, 1-4 AMC) 3-1 in game one of the double-header, but bouncing back with a massive offensive performance in game two, winning 16-3 in seven innings.
The Lions scored their 16 runs on 16 total hits in the game-two blowout. Josh Sears, Will McCall, Dom Pisano, Cole Nichols, Zach Sanders and Collin Baber each had two hits in the contest. Sanders had a team-high four RBI's in the win, and McCall added his fourth home run of the season.
Austin Steel pitched all seven innings and earned the win striking out five batters, bringing his season total to 34.
In the game-one loss, the Lions went down 2-0 after four innings. They were able to score a run after Sears brought in Baber on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, but the Trojans were able to answer with a run of their own to get their lead back to two.
The two teams will close out the series on Saturday with a single nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
