JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions soccer team (1-1) was finally able to get its season underway on Tuesday when they opened up Mid-South Conference play against Cumberland University (2-0), falling 5-0 in the spring opener.

The score was deadlocked at 0-0 for the vast majority of the first half until the Phoenix were able to break it with just over three minutes remaining in the opening 45 minutes.

Cumberland was able open things up in the second half, scoring four goals on 18 shots, and only allowing one shot by the Lady Lions.

Carlen Whirley made seven saves in her FHU debut in goal.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to continue play on Sunday at home against Thomas More. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon.
