Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The No. 9 Lions (6-7, 1-0 MSC) got their Mid-South Conference debut off to the start they wanted when they knocked off Thomas More (1-9, 0-1 MSC) 12-2 in game one of a three-game series.
The Lions got on the board first when Zach Sanders scored his first of three runs on a sacrifice fly by Beau Simpson.
Fielding errors would lead to two runs by the Saints to take the lead in the top of the second, but after three scoreless innings for the Lions, they opened things up in the late innings and scored 11 runs in four frames to put Thomas More away by mercy rule.
It was also a career day for Jacob Sawyers, who not only recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts in seven innings pitched, but he also struck out every Thomas More batter in the lineup at least once.
Sanders went on to finish the game 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, a double and three runs scored in the leadoff spot. Dom Pisano had two doubles and an RBI out the two hole, and Brady Harris added two hits with two RBIs.
Connor Creasy struck out two batters in his one inning of relief while earning the save.
Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the first inning. Game time tomorrow is TBD.
