Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 19 Lions (15-13, 8-2 MSC) won game two against the No. 2 Southeastern Fire (28-3, 7-2 TSC) 8-4 on Friday, but fell 11-4 in game three.
It was a very strong day for preseason All-American Alex Huey, who only gave up one run over seven and one-third innings pitched, earning the win. Connor Creasy earned the save after striking out two batters in the ninth inning.
The bats were hot for the Lions as well, with Josh Sears hitting two home runs with three RBIs in a 3-for-4 outing at the plate. Dom Pisano added a three-run shot, and Zach Sanders went 3-for-5 with two RBIs out of the leadoff spot.
Southeastern jumped out to a hot start in game three, leading off with a home run followed by a wild pitch to make it 2-0 in the first inning.
The Fire added one more in the second inning to make it 3-0, but Von Watson hit a long ball in the top of the third, tying the game at 3-3.
After the third inning, it was all Southeastern, scoring eight runs in the last four innings to put the game out of reach.
The Lions and Fire will be back in action on Saturday to close out the four-game series. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m. central time.
