PULASKI, Tenn. — Lining up on the field with the defending national champions, the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions knew their task against the No. 6 Tennessee Southern FireHawks would be a difficult one. Despite a valiant effort from the Freed-Hardeman defense, the FireHawks reigned victorious with a 5-0 win.
Freed-Hardeman (5-4-1, 1-3-0 MSC) was on the defense from the opening whistle with the FireHawks netting the first goal at the 8:50 mark. After a second UTS goal at 18:01, the Lady Lions ended the half with a manageable 2-0 deficit. Tennessee Southern poured on the shots in the opening half, firing 13 toward the FHU net, with sophomore Brooke Latham keeping out an impressive seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
Despite allowing Freed-Hardeman's defense to slow down their attack, Tennessee Southern (7-2-1, 3-0-1 MSC) scored three goals in the second frame to keep the game out of reach.
After facing 22 shots, Latham ended the night with a season-high 11 saves. FHU managed to send four shots toward the UTS net, with Pia Grosse kicking two including the lone shot on goal.
