Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (3-1) fell to Lyon College (3-2) Friday night by a score of 3-2. The Lions committed 3 errors during the game which contributed to the loss.
Colton Huntt was the starting hurler for the Lions. Huntt pitched a 1-2-3 first inning and collected 2 strikeouts. Christian Presley led the game off with a mammoth solo bomb. At the end of the first, the Lions led 1-0.
After surrendering a lead-off home run in the second, Huntt was able to get the next three outs in quick fashion. The Lions scratched another run after an RBI single from Caleb Molo that scored the runner from second.
In the third inning, Lyon threatened to score many runs and had plenty of opportunities, but Huntt was able to settle in and get the outs he needed to get his team back in the dugout. The Lions were unable to get anything going in the bottom half of the inning and the score was 2-2 at the end of the third.
Huntt again got quick outs accompanied by great plays from his defense. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions still could not manufacture any runs.
After some miscues by the Lions defense, the Scots were able to take a 3-2 lead. The Lions hitters went down quietly and did not record a hit in the fifth.
Huntt was relieved by Luis Torrez-Lopez in the top of the sixth inning. Lopez was able to work quickly and efficiently to get a 1-2-3 inning. The Lions went 3 up 3 down in the bottom part of the inning.
Lopez was able to hold the Scots to their one-run lead in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, the Lions were still struggling to put anything together to score runs.
Lopez again boasted a 1-2-3 inning as he made quick work of the Scots. The Lions threatened to score runs in the eighth but were unsuccessful after a double play ended their efforts.
After the top of the ninth, the score remained 3-2. The Lions failed to produce in the last inning and fell to Lyon College. Huntt received the loss for the game.
The Lions look forward to tomorrow's doubleheader tomorrow (Lyon Game 2, St. Francis Game 3) at Five Wells Field starting at 1:30.
