Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (17-8, 5-4 MSC) lost a tough game to the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan (27-1) Tuesday afternoon by a score of 14-11. The Lions battled the whole game but the Bulldogs were able to outlast them.
Freshman Wesley Culley got the start for the Lions. The Bulldogs struck first in the second inning by scoring 2 runs.
In the third inning, the Lions' offense exploded to tally 9 runs on the board. Mason Libla smashed a 2-run shot over the wall to get things rolling. Shortly after, Sean Rooney hit an RBI double. The Lions added 2 more runs by capitalizing on Bulldog errors. A few moments later, Caleb Molo delivered a huge grand slam to finish out the scoring in the third. The Lions led 9-2 going into the bottom part of the inning. The Bulldogs answered back and tagged 8 runs on Lions pitchers. Culley exited after 2.1 innings of work allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 0 strikeouts. Luis Torrez-Lopez entered for relief. The Bulldogs led 10-9 after the third.
In the fourth inning, Will McCall tied the game with a clutch solo homer. In the bottom of the inning, Bulldogs tagged another 2 runs on Torrez. They also added another run in the fifth. The score remained 10-13 until the eighth inning.
Hunter Beecham joined the homerun parade with a solo shot of his own. But the Bulldogs would answer back by scoring another run in the bottom of the inning off Lions pitcher Connor Creasy.
The Lions were not able to gain any ground in the final inning and fell. Torrez received the loss.
The Freed-Hardeman Univerisity Lions look ahead to their next conference series this weekend against Shawnee State at Five Wells Field in Henderson, Tennessee.
