Box Score The Freed-Hardeman University Lions (25-11, 12-6 MSC) fell to the Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs (37-2) Tuesday afternoon by a score of 19-12. The day was full of extra base hits on both sides.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead to a commanding lead in the first inning, which they held to the end of the game. After the first inning, the Bulldogs were on top 11-0. They continued to pound the Lions pitchers as they scored 5 in the second and 2 in the third, making the score 18-0.
The Lions were able to cut down the lead in the third inning after a 2-run shot over the left-center field wall by Christian Presley. The score after the third was 18-2.
In the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs scratched their final run across the board. The Lions never gave up as they put together two great innings of offense in the fifth and sixth innings. The scoring began with a 2-run homer from Sean Rooney. Soon after, William Kelley drove in a run with a single to right field. Kimmey Johnson rounded off the scoring with a 2-RBI double down the left field line. The score after the fifth was 19-7.
In the sixth inning, the Lions were able to connect on two more 2-run homers from Rooney and Kelley. The score was then 19-11.
The Lions would score their final run in the bottom of the ninth from a solo homer from Ryan Stark. Riley Keesy received the loss.
The Lions look ahead to their next conference matchup this weekend against in-state rival UT Southern at Five Wells Field.
