HENDERSON, Tenn. — A pair of late goals helped give the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions their second win of the season, blanking the Williams Baptist (Ark.) Univeristy Lady Eagles 2-0.
Freed-Hardeman (2-1-0) kept the pressure high during the opening frame, tallying eight shots in the first half, four of which were on target.
It wasn't until the 85:16 minute mark when Jessica Musselman forced a turnover at midfield and found a streaking Abby Elmore set up near the goal line to the Williams Baptist (0-2-0) keeper's right. The Murray, Kentucky native thought about a cross pass, but instead bent a shot just inside the left post to touch the back of the net and give Freed-Hardeman the 1-0 lead.
Then two short minutes later, Sara Becerra dribbled past the defending Eagle just inside the box, where she had an open lane to the net where she connected for her second goal of the season to give FHU the 2-0 victory.
Brooke Latham had an easy clean sheet, not facing a single shot from the Eagles in the shutout win.
