HENDERSON — In their final MId-South Conference match in the Brewer Sports Center, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions hoped to pick up their first league win of the year. Instead, the Bethel (Tenn.) University Lady Wildcats' heavy attack was too much for the Lady Lions, who fell 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-22).
The Lady Lions (11-13, 0-10 MSC) got started the right way, with
Alanys Ruíz Rivera smashing three kills, with
Avery Young helping the Lady Lions to a 5-2 advantage. After that, the Wildcats rallied to score nine unanswered points to take an 11-5 lead. FHU worked their way back until an
Avery Harris kill knotted the set 17-17. Harris and Young would tag-team down the stretch to force extra points, with the set ultimately favorite Bethel 27-25.
Bethel (11-13, 4-6 MSC) answered with their best attacking set in the middle frame, tallying 16 kills with three errors at a .382 mark. It was again a long streak the edged the Lady Lions, who saw a manageable 14-11 deficit quickly turn into a 20-11 one before the hammer fell on a 25-15 set two.
In the final set, the Lady Lions had nine errors to their eight kills, while the Wildcats landed 13 kills to claim the set and match 3-0.
