GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions bounced back after losing their first two sets against the Georgetown (Ky.) College Tigers, but could not complete the comeback, falling 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19).
The opening set was wire-to-wire from the first service with FHU (9-8, 0-5 MSC) and Georgetown drawing even 16 times and swapping leads six times. The Lady Lions saw themselves leading 17-14 late in the set, but Georgetown would rattle off four unanswered points to take an 18-17 lead. After an
Avery Harris block gave service back to the Lady Lions, Georgetown would promptly win the last six points of the set to win 25-19.
Groups of two were followed by groups three, highlighting the second set. Georgetown (7-15, 1-4 MSC) would open with two points before FHU answered with a pair of points of their own. The Tigers continued their two-point trend until FHU tied the set 6-6 before the teams traded three 3-0 runs. A five-point run late in the set helped the Tigers claim the 25-23 set win.
The Lady Lions had three big kills to start the third set, first from
Masey Kate Adams, then from
Ann Elise Jackson, wrapping up with
Avery Young.
Alanys Ruíz Rivera and
Catherine Hackett would pick up the point production to help FHU to a 7-2 lead. The Tigers would answer late with a 4-0 run to tie the set 14-14. Ruí Rivera picked up the pace with a kill and a service ace to give FHU back the lead before an attack error from Georgetown helped FHU avoid the sweep by winning the set 25-21.
Despite a 7-0 run in the middle of the fourth frame, the Lady Lions could not answer the Tiger attack with the hosts tallying 14 kills to claim the set and match.
Avery Young and
Catherine Hackett both racked up double-doubles for FHU with Young leading the team in both kills and digs with 11 and 15, respectively. Hackett was right on her heels with 10 kills and as many digs.
Masey Kate Adams garnered 26 assists in the loss.
