BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Playing for the first time in a week, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions picked up their eighth straight win with a 58-37 victory over the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University.
It took nearly the entire first quarter for the Lady Lions (8-1) to shake the rust off, going 2-11 in the first five minutes while Blue Mountain Christian opened up to a six-point advantage. It was not until
Raegan Purvine's 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in the first frame that the Lady Lions took their first lead at 14-12.
The second half was all Lady Lions with FHU bucketing a triple from
Alaina Stiles before
KJ White's set of 3-pointers sandwiched a
Rachel Satterly jumper. The Toppers (1-6) were held to four points in the second quarter, giving the Lady Lions a 28-16 lead at intermission.
FHU began to separate from the opposition in the third quarter with
Kelsey Bender joining the 3-pointer club with a pair of long balls, joining Satterly's two and White's one in a 22-point explosion. The Lady Lions would score six unanswered points to close the quarter with a 50-26 edge.
With the Lady Lions on top by a game-high 26 points, the back end of the bench got plenty of minutes of the fourth quarter before finalizing the 58-37 win.
37 points are the fewest allowed by the Lady Lions this season, while FHU's bench tallied 23 points.
Rachel Satterly and
KJ White led FHU's offense with identical lines, going 5-13 to score 13 points. Satterly was 2-3 from the free-throw line while White was 3-6 from deep.
Kelsey Bender was perfect from the floor including going 3-3 from long range to bucket 11 points. Bender also grabbed a team-high five rebounds and two steals.

The Lady Lions head to Lebanon, Tennessee where they will compete in the Rosa Stokes Classic hosted by Cumberland (Tenn.) University. FHU will face Simmons (Ky.) College on Friday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m. before lining up against Campbellsville University Harrodsburg (Ky.) on Saturday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m.
