GALLATIN, Tenn. — The No. 24 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions took care of business in the key Friday night, having more points in the paint against the Welch (Tenn.) College Flames than the hosts had total points. 52 points in the lane helped the Lady Lions win their 11th consecutive game 80-47.
Though it was free throws from
Kaylee Odom that got the Lady Lions (11-1) on the board, the layups began early and often with Odom being joined by
KJ White and
Raegan Purvine with layups. From 3:57 to the end of the opening quarter, all of FHU's points came from layups to explode to a 24-6 first quarter lead.
Rachel Satterly drained a 3-pointer midway through the second frame to put FHU on top of the Flames (1-8) by a 42-8 margin. Late scoring from the hosts narrowed the gap, but the Lady Lions still had a comfortable 48-16 lead at halftime.
Welch came out of the locker room strong, more than doubling their first half scoring output by bucketing 21 points in the third quarter. Their defense stepped up as well, with the Lady Lions going 5-13 in a quarter where they bucketed 12 points to maintain a 60-37 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
The final quarter looked much like the first with FHU driving the late where Odom bucketed seven points, while
Alaina Stiles and
Katie Arms closed the 33 point win 80-47.
The Lady Lions moved the ball deftly in the front court, handing out 25 assists on 34 made field goals, led by
Rachel Satterly's six helpers.
Kaylee Odom had a massive night, going 11-13 from the floor to score 27 points.
Kelsey Bender bucketed 11 points in the win. Satterly joinedÂ
Elli Chumley with grabbing the team high of nine rebounds each.
Brooklyn Crouch and
KJ White both took away three steals.
