Riggs' Lady Lions get first win

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions gave Lindsay Riggs her first win as the leader of the Lady Lions with a 6-3 victory over the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles. Zoe Stom recorded her first career hat trick with a goal in the first and a pair of goals in the second.

FHU (1-6-0) tallied their first goal at 14:31 when Abby Schwarz had the ball on the ride side of the goal before sending a centering pass to the goal area where a sliding Addison Greene connected for her first career goal. 15 minutes later, Zoe Stom connected for her first goal when Schwarz centered a pass to the goal area where Stom settled and shot to put the Lady Lions on top 2-0 at 29:27. Less that 30 seconds later, FHU had immediate steal off of the kickoff, where Sophia Haddad de Lima made a move around a defender to get enough space from the left edge of the box and sent it just over the keeper's shoulder at 29:44 to take a 3-0 advantage to the halftime break.

Zoe Stom opened the second half at 47:36 with a beautiful looping shot she took from the edge of the center circle, floating the ball just under the crossbar to notch her first goal of the season. After the Eagles (0-7-0) tallied a goal, Stom would add complete the hat trick after WBU was trying to clear the ball after a corner kick, but fired it right to the shin of Stom who settled and fired a shot to tally the goal and put FHU up 5-1. The last goal of the match for the Lady Lions whe Haddad de Lima went untouched from top of box to the goal area where she booted a right-footer to the bottom-left of goal.

Despite the slow start to the season, Riggs knew it was only a matter of time before getting the first win, saying, "We focus on the things that make us better and that's how we stay positive."

Brooke Latham picked up the win after the 3-0 first half where she saw two shots which were both off target. In the second half, Caraline Riddle would tally six saves while surrendering three goals.

"We have built confidence going into next game we did the hard part of getting a team win," continued Riggs. "We will use the momentum going into the week."
