HENDERSON — On the first match of two on a busy weekend, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions fell in straight sets to the Campbellsville (Ky.) University Tigers 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18).
After
Avery Young got the match started with a kill for Freed-Hardeman (9-6, 0-3 MSC), FHU jumped ahead to a 4-1 lead; however, the Tigers rattled off five unanswered points to take a 6-4 advantage. FHU would stay within striking distance the rest of the set until the CU hitters got on a roll and jumped ahead to a 20-12 advantage. The deficit proved too much to overcome as Campbellsville won the first set 25-17.
Campbellsville (8-8, 4-4 MSC) stormed into the second set, holding a 6-1 lead in the blink of an eye. Though the Lady Lions picked up another point, they eventually were forced into a timeout trailing 11-2.
Avery Harris and
Alanys Ruíz Rivera tallied back-to-back kills before teaming up for a block. Campbellsville would score the final four points of the set to win 25-14.
Nearly idendical to the second set, the Lady Lions fell behind early with the Tigers jumping ahead 6-1. Ruíz Rivera and Harris continued to swing well to narrow the gap to see the Lady Lions trail 22-17 late in the set, but the Tigers would claim the set and the match 25-18.
The Lady Lions were led offensively by
Avery Harris and
Alanys Ruíz Rivera who each tallied five kills.
Charley Fulton collected 11 digs while
Masey Kate Adams led the team with 13 assists.
