FHU falls in straight sets

HENDERSON — On back-to-back matches, the Freed-Hardeman Univesrity Lady Lion volleyball team came up empty against their opponent, falling yesterday in a sweep before losing to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-23) on Saturday.

Both teams swung the ball well, ending each set with a positive attack rating. The Lady Lions (9-7, 0-4 MSC) were down early after a pair of LWC kills and and a service ace before Catherine Hackett tallied a pair of kills to help push FHU to a 5-4 lead. Morgan Wilson would later connect for a servcie ace before Audrey Orton's kill put FHU on top 9-6. The set would go back and forth before the Blue Raiders went on a four-point rally streak to take a 16-12 lead they would maintain the remainder of the set to win 25-21.

Lindsey Wilson (9-9, 2-3 MSC) rode a 6-1 wave to start the middle frame before Avery Harris would first team up with Alanys Ruíz Rivera for a block before slamming home a kill to put FHU's deficit at 10-7. From there the teams traded side outs before Charley Fulton's service ace kept FHU alive at 24-23, but the Blue Raiders claimed the next point to jump ahead two sets to none with a 25-23 win.

The Lady Lions never gave up in the third set, forcing 10 ties and six different lead changes. The difference in the teams was Lindsey Wilson smacking a match-high 18 kills while the Lady Lions connected for a match-low nine kills.

Alanys Ruíz Rivera led the Lions with eight kills, followed by Ann Elise Jackson's seven-kill effort. Charley Fulton pulled up 15 digs while Ruíz Rivera added 14. FHU had six solo blocks while sending back eight tandem blocks. Jackson joined Catherine Hackett with two solo stuffs and one block assist. Masey Kate Adams set up FHU for success with 14 assists.
