COLUMBIA, Ky. — A day after returning to the top 10, the No. 7 Freed-Hardeman University Lions continues to show dominant defense, forcing the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College Blue Raiders to commit 21 turnovers. FHU bucketed 33 points off of those turnovers to help to a 100-61 victory.
Quan Lax opened up the Mid-South Conference matchup with a layup before
Peyton Law's layup at 15:32 gave the Lions (15-2, 3-0 MSC) an 8-3 lead. In the first half, the Lions defense stood strong, not allowing the hosting Blue Raiders to tally consecutive unanswered field goals. On the other side, the Lions fed the paint where
JJ Wheat layed up a basked before
Chase Fiddler and
Ryley McClaran connected for 3-pointers to score eight straight points and lead LWC 49-26. At 7:32, the Blue Raiders connected for a layup. That layup would be the last field goal the Blue Raiders would score before a 1-14 run to close the first half with the Lions leading 53-28 at halftime.
The second half began the same way as the first half, with Lax weaving through the Blue Raiders (9-7, 1-1 MSC) to lay up a basket and give the Lions a 27-point edge.
Hunter Scurlock would begin to pen his name in the scorebook with a dunk and a layup before hitting two free throws. The Lions watched
Sam Powell tally three 3-pointers late, including the one at 2:08 that put FHU over the century mark for the third time this season to put a bow on the 100-61 win.
FHU was 10-25 from long range, while LWC hit five of an attempted 22 3-pointers. The Lions matched their season-high with 16 steals. Coach
Drew Stutts' squad also shared the rock, tallying 17 assists to the Blue Raiders' six.
Five Lions were in double figures with
Hunter Scurlock leading the charge with 15 points.
Geraldo Lane and
Quan Lax chased with 13 points each.
JJ Wheat collected 12 points, while
Sam Powell bucketed three from deep to help him to an 11-point finish.
Quan Lax dished a team-high five assists and stole away four possessions from the Blue Raiders.Â
