COLUMBIA, Ky. — With the original start time changed due to the wintry weather in the Mid-South, the No. 22 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions froze up in the third quarter. Being outscored 23-9 in the frame, the Lady Lions suffered a Thursday loss to the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College Blue Raiders 67-57.
it was a hot start for Freed-Hardeman (16-3, 2-1 MSC) who bucketed seven points before the Blue Raiders got on the board. After LWC had three straight baskets,
Kelsey Bender's 3-pointer at 4:47 kept the Lady Lions on top; however, it would be the last time the Lady Lions would score before Lindsey Wilson would tally nine unanswered points - seven from free throws - to take a 15-10 lead.
Carissa Curtis knocked down a triple to close the first quarter with FHU trailing 15-13.
Rachel Satterly shone in the second quarter, scoring 15 of the Lady Lions' 20 points. On the other end of the floor, Lindsey Wilson (13-5, 1-1 MSC) connected for back-to-back 3-pointers to start the quarter before driving the lane to score 10 points in the paint, including a last-second layup that send the teams to the break with LWC leading 34-33.
The Lady Lions managed two field goals in the third quarter, going 2-13 in the frame. On the other hand, the Blue Raiders were 7-11 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. FHU would add points from free throws by Satterly,
KJ White, and
Brooklyn Crouch, but the 23-9 quarter put the Lady Lions behind 57-42.
Freed-Hardeman was able to add buckets late in the quarter, connecting for 10 points in the final two minutes; however, the lead by the Blue Raiders was too much to overcome in the 67-57 defeat.
