HENDERSON — After successful runs in the ITA individual tournaments, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions swept the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers 7-0 in their first dual of the 2024-25 season.
Merlin Bolema and
Maxime Guyon teamed up for the Lions (1-0) to defeat their Tiger opponents 6-4 with
Carlos Garcia and
Pablo Poleo joining to win 6-2.
Brayden Smith and
Braden Young wrapped up the doubles flight with a 6-3 victory.
The No. 1 singles match lived up to its billing with Bolema needing a tiebreak set to emerge victorious over his NEMCC (0-1) opponent. After winning the first set 7-5, Bolema fell 6-2 in the second before storming through the tiebreak set to win the match 7-5, 4-6, 10-2. Guyon was the victor on the No. 2 court with a 6-4, 6-3 win while Poleo won his match 6-2, 6-2.
Braden Young won his singles match 6-0, 6-2 with Garcia winning 6-0, 6-1. Smith finished off a with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 match.
