Lady Lions survive scare from Florida Memorial

HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions hosted the Florida Memorial University Lions Monday night. Despite the guests scoring a game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions of FHU were able to earn the 67-62 victory.

FHU doubled up Florida Memorial (4-1) in the second quarter, scoring 16 points the opponents' eight. R. Satterly's triple sparked a 7-0 run before a free throw from Lucy Curry at 2:45 gave the Lady Lions their largest lead of the night at 15 points. A halftime, FHU held a 34-30 lead.

FMU made the adjustment from the second to the third quarter, scoring 15 points in the penultimate frame. Lilly Kee kept the opposing Lions at bay with back-to-back jumpers before an and-1 opportunity narrowed the lead to single digits at 1:09, dropping the Lady Lion lead to 44-35 before a four-point run ended the third quarter with FHU leading 48-35.

Florida Memorial began chipping away in the final quarter, primarily due to solid free throw shooting where the blue and orange scored 12 points from the charity stripe. Though FMU drew within two possessions in the last minute, the early lead and the late consistency helped earn the 67-62 victory.
