OKLAHOMA CITY — Facing their toughest test of the season, the No. 25 Freed-Hardeman University Lions fell twice to the Oklahoma City University Stars. First, a three-run first inning was enough to draw the 3-0 loss before FHU fell 11-4 in game two.
Game 1
FHU - 0
OCU - 3
Cam Madding and
Christian Presley connected for back-to-back singles for the Lions (15-2), but it was Oklahoma City that had the big swing. A single and a fielder's choice set up a double to score the first run of the game before a two-run homer put the Stars up 3-0.
The Stars (13-7) retired the Lions in order until
Brady Spring drew a one-out walk in the top of the fifth inning.
Cade Fuller followed with a single, bu a 4-6-3 double play erased the Lion baserunners and retired the side.
Colton Huntt (4-1) tossed six innings for FHU where he struck out seven without surrendering a single walk.
FHU had three hits in the defeat, coming off of the bats of
Cam Madding,
Christian Presley, and
Cade Fuller.

Game 2
FHU - 4
OCU - 11
The Lions (15-3) hoped that their comeback bid in the late innings would be enough, but a fast start by OCU was too much to overcome.
The Stars (14-7) plated runs in each of the first four innings - including putting up a four-spot in the second inning.Â
FHU would chip away at the lead beginning in the top of the sixth inning after
Trace Anderson led off the frame with a single. Anderson would eventually score the Lions' first run of the day thanks to
Brady Spring's groundout.
The Lion plate discipline showed in the top of the seventh inning when the Lions managed to draw five consecutive walks with Anderson's walk driving in the second run of the inning after
Austin Johnson scored the first on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly from
Christian Presley drove home
Cannon Daversa, but the four runs were not enough as the Lions fell 11-4.
Houston High (4-1) was saddled with the loss, surrendering six earned runs in three innings of action.
Hunter Bennett,
Tyler Wingard, and
Cam Jennings each pitched in relief.
FHU mustered two hits in the second game, one from
Trace Anderson and the second from
Cam Madding.
