Lady Lions split on senior day

HENDERSON — Celebrating four seniors, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions took the first game against the Bethel (Tenn.) University Wildcats 8-1 before falling in game two 2-1.

Game 1
BU - 1
FHU - 8

In game one, it was a big hit from Kiersten Mesler that drove in the first two runs for the Lady Lions (24-15, 13-8 MSC) with a double. Mesler would then score on Brooklyn Jimmerson's RBI single before Olivia white's single allowed Jimmerson to score. The fifth FHU run of the inning crossed on the second Bethel error of the inning to give the Lady Lions a 5-0 lead.

After Natalie Gilmore singled and stole second, Jimmerson drove home her second RBI to put the Lady Lions on top of the Lady Wildcats (12-23, 3-16 MSC) 6-0. Bethel would record a two-out home run to plate their lone run of the game.

The Lady Lions scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with Grayson Mayo's RBI single and White driving home the final run with a groundout to give FHU the 8-1 victory.

Chloe Winter (7-5) picked up the victory by tossing four complete innings with three strikeouts with Brittany Adair earning her first save of the year after striking out seven Wildcats in three full innings.

Brooklyn Jimmerson, Kiersten Mesler, and Brooklyn Jimmerson all drove home two runs each while Brinley Cousar and Natalie Gilmore collected two hits.

Game 2
BU - 2
FHU - 1

The Lady Lions (24-16, 13-9 MSC) fell in the final game of the day in a game where both teams left runners stranded, combining for 18 runners left on base. Kiersten Mesler drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the first, then scoring the only Lady Lion run when Brooklyn Jimmerson landed a double to right-center.

Bethel (13-25, 4-16 MSC) scored the tying run in the top of the second when the pain of three straight singles was eased after one run scored, but a second was thrown out to limit the damage to tie the game 1-1.

Small ball worked for the Wildcats in the top of the sixth when a sacrifice bunt moved what ended up being the game winning run to third base. A fielder's choice drove home that run to hand the Lady Lions the 2-1 loss.

Katelyn Bradford (2-3) was given the loss, throwing a complete game where she struck out one.

Brinley Cousar and Olivia White had two base hits each for the Lady Lions.
