BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — All three runs crossed in the fifth inning between the No. 3 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) Tigers and the No. 2 seed Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions. Fortunately for the Lady Lions, the two scored in the bottom half were enough to pick up the 2-1 victory in their first game of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
FHU (29-16) loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with one out, but the Tigers were able to record a strikeout and a lineout to retire the side and leave three stranded.
After a leadoff single and a groundout, Campbellsville (28-17) landed a double down the line in left field to score the first run and take a 1-0 lead. Despite being retired in order the second time through the order,
Olivia White got the ball rolling for the Lady Lions with a single to right field in the bottom of the fifth. After a flyout recrdoed the second out, the top of the order struck for FHU with
Karli Quillin and
Natalie Gilmore each earning infield singles to load the bases.
Alivia Eggleston then roped a single down the right-field line to plate both
Gracie Wilson - on as a pinch runner - and Quillin.
Chloe Winters (9-5) then retired the final six batters to claim victory. The senior tossed a complete game where she struck out five without surrendering a walk.
Karli Quillin was a perfect 3-3 on the day, with
Alivia Eggleston going 2-3 and driving in both Lady Lion runs.
