Spain grabs second win against France

PARIS — Grace Alonso de Armiño and her Spanish squad scored four points in the final minute of play to secure a 17-12 victory against host nation France to help move to 2-0 in pool play of the Women's 3x3 tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

It took nearly the entire first minute of play for either team to score before Spain's Sandra Ygueravide sank a 2-pointer before tallying another pair of points to put Spain on top 4-0. France then mounted a comeback to tie the game 5-5 with 6:07 remaining. From there until the final minute, neither team would lead by more than one possession with the squads trading two leads and drawing even four times. Ygueravide put the game away with a layup and a free throw in the 17-12 win.

FHU alumna Alonso de Armiño continued her strong rebounding, grabbing three boards and dishing out one highlight assist.

With each team completing two games, Alonso de Armiño sits in second place by averaging three offensive rebounds per game while averaging 5.5 total rebounds: the third most in the Olympic field.

Spain joins Canada as the only unbeaten teams remaining in the pool play round. The Spanish squad next plays their first of back-to-back two-game days. They will first face the Chinese team at 11:00 a.m. before taking on the American team at 2:30 p.m. China is 1-1 while the USA team is looking for their first win of the 2024 games.
