PARIS — Freed-Hardeman University graduate Grace Alonso de Armiño and her Spanish 3x3 team knew their day in the 2024 Paris Olympics would be tough when they first played the 2020 bronze medalist China before wrapping up the day facing the defending Olympic champion USA team. La Roja took two losses with a 14-11 loss to the Chinese squad and a 17-11 defeat by the US team.
Against China, Alonso de Armiño continued her strong rebounding by grabbing a game-high six boards while chipping in with one point. With LeBron James in attendance against the USA, she tallied one point, one rebound, and had one key assist.
After four games of competition, Alonso de Armiño has grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds while leading all Olympians with eight offensive rebounds.
Spain has an early start tomorrow, first facing Australia at 5:30 a.m. before tackling the Canadian squad at 2:00 p.m. before finishing pool play against Germany on August 3 at 11:00 a.m.
The red and gold will need to find themselves in the top six out of the eight competing teams to advance to the quarterfinals. After the third day of competition, Spain sits in fifth place.
