Women's soccer earns first win of 2024

ST. LOUIS — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion soccer team entered the win column Tuesday night against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics with a 4-2 victory.

It was a very offensive game with 35 combined shots, but the big one for FHU (1-2-0) coming at 30:26 when Alexia Lorenzo-Pereira was moving across the box before suddenly changing directions and booting in the first Lady Lion goal of 2024 with the left foot. Hadley Husband joined the book with a kick in front of the dugouts at midfield drifting a shot over the keeper's head at 37:15 to give FHU a 2-0 halftime lead.

Ellie Wood joined the scoring in the 48th minute after Rachel Dollar's breakaway pass in the UHSP (0-1-0) zone found Wood in the box who made no mistake putting the third FHU goal in the net. The Lady Lions wrapped up the scoring off of the same boot it began with. After the UHSP keeper made a save, nearly all of the players on the field expected the ball to roll out of bounds. Lorenzo-Pereira was not one of them, keeping the ball in play and toeing it into the net to score her second of the match and put a bow on FHU's scoring at 56:19.

The Eutectics put up a strong fight in the last 20 minutes of the match, scoring two goals within a minute of teach other but the Lady Lions held on for the 4-2 victory.

FHU put up 21 shots in the match, 16 of which were on goal. Ava Pierce earned the victory with three saves.
